Creating with Kauri, The Kauri Museum, Matakohe, Northland NZ, Sept 2020.

"Digesting the current Covid 19 crisis from the antiopodean safety of New Zealand has been uncomfortable and com=nfronting. As a concequence of lockdown, the twenty-six reconstituted kauri gum beads contained in this cyclic necklace got darker and darker, just like the fate of the great NZ Kauri, as well as the fate of all of us affected by the virus" M Bernal.

"Rom is the name I gave a material I invented to capture and express my ideas in the form of Contemporary Jewellery. It sits at the core of a speculative narrative I generated about preservation of information, and most importantly it purports to signify a new form of value"

Munich Jewellery Week 2018, IWA:NZ makers
March 2018, I traveled to Munich to take part in IWA, an exhibition of NZ contemporary jewellery curated by Peter Deckers as part of Frame Galleries, inside the Internationale Handwerkmesse during Jewellery Week. The stall was located right outside the prestigious craft and design competitions/shows Talente and Shmuck which led to an impressive influx of viewers into IWA. Here are some pics of the week.
